Lactose Operon:
The Lactose Operon is a cluster of genes all related to the metabolism of lactose by bacteria. In the absence of lactose, it is wasteful to make the enzymes to degrade lactose so the operon is switched OFF. But in the presence of lactose, the genes are switched ON and the lactose-degrading enzymes are produced.
